Fairfax County, VA Newborn Session | He decided he was ready

These new parents chose me to photograph this new season in their lives, before their new little man was born. When you book me for a newborn session, you have the option to add a maternity mini, and they chose to spend time with me for both. It’s such a gift to be able to watch families completely transform. Of course, you’re the same people that you were beforehand, but to watch immense growth happen over a couple of months (and in this case, just a month!) never gets any less magical.

Just a month after we met at one of my favorite parks (Cabell’s Mill), this mama emailed me to say that their little boy was “ready to meet the world” — almost 5 weeks early! A couple of weeks later, here we were.

That first portrait is a favorite of mine. One of the moments I was standing next to with my camera down by my hip, waiting for the photo I wanted to take, then movement I wanted to photograph happened. It’s a miracle that it isn’t blurry.
